CHiLDREN
Of FALL.::.INTERview
Just one of the best bands right now, those guys rock! With their new
album they created
one of the most powerful screamo posthardcore of the time... but who
knows?! Definetly
not much, so time to introduce these danish guys to the audience! We
had some words
with Emil, bassplayer of the children...
 |
fRk: Some people may never have heard about
the Children of Fall, so please introduce yourselves a little bit! E: The band has actually been around for about six years by now... We are a
musical collective from Malmö in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark. Sofar released 3
fullength records and one mcd/split. Toured alot, about 400 live shows by now. 1st cd:
Riding a broken vehicle, Genet rec 2nd cd:Ignition for poor hearts, Scenepolice
rec 3rd cd: Bonjour tristesse, Day after rec splitmcd with Nikad, Black star

fRk: The new album
Bonjour Tristesse is just out on Day After Records/CZ
how does
it differ from the older ones
caus unfortunately I just have the
new stuff, but it`s more
than awesome!
E:Thank you very much.
Let's say that our "new sound" is more dynamic than before,
the band wanted to develop their sound and add some more dynamics into
the music.
Exploit new things and widen the borders of what before was considered
as "possible"
for us 5 as a band when it comes to write music/songs.
fRk: Did you have a
producer for Bonjour Tristesse?
E: Nope, but the band got
alot of help in the studio from William Blackmon, that also
recorded and mixed the album.
fRk: I know that you did
some releases for Genet and Scenepolice records, why got the
relationships quit?
E: Because of alot of
different reasons... sometimes things like that just happens... With Genet
I guess we didn't longer share the same groundvalues when it comes down
to punk and
buisness, but we still have a good relation with Bruno from Genet
today... With Scenepolice
it was a bit more difficult, i do not know if we were dropped out or if
we quitted? it all had to
do with our diffrent views on a big political issue. we are still
friends with the people behind
Scenepolice and i think it's a pity that the label had to end.
fRk: Do you feel satisfied
with Day After?
E: Yes! absolutly! Mira is
awesome. During my days in the "hardcore/punk scene" i've
always heard good things about him and his label, and what can i say
more than that people
were right. I cannot really think about any other European label that
would suit better for us
right now.
fRk:When people ask you if
you would consider yourself as a punkrock or a hardcore band
what do you answer them?
E: Yes we would... we are
all from that kind of backround... I've always ben playing in
Hc/punk or Emo bands, i have my own label, and been promoting shows
since i was 16
i guess. I've always been into diy, even if i didn't know about the
term back in those days.
But offcourse, there's always an interesting question in what's punk or
not?
fRk: Some people consider
you to be communists, cause you share some anarchistic beliefs
well, I suppose you`re not, but could you go into more detail with
that?!
E: It's hard to be a
communist if you consider yourself to be an Anarchist, right?!?
The five individuals in the band have different beliefs and also
different definitions on anarchism.
I guess none of us would call Children Of Fall a Anarchist band, but
the members in the band
are in one way or another anarchists. We share alot of beliefs, and
sure, in many cases this
effects the band in one way or another...
fRk: So then, what do you
think about T.I.N.C ( the International Noise Conspiracy )
maybe you know each other?!;)
E: I'm always pretty
impressed about their liveshows. Havn't heard them on recordings for a
long time... i'm happy that they are doing good. Know or know... i'm an
old friend of the
drummer Ludvig, but i havn't seen him for years. Lars in the inc used
to play with a band
called "Separation", and Olle and Anders played in
"Serene" and since this two bands toured
together a couple of times, so i guess they know eachother, at least a
bit...
fRk: Music as
medium, as a platform of expression
what does that mean to you, what
do you wanna express?
:
E: lots of things! i couldn't go on day by day if i wouldn't have the
chance to be creative.
Music can say so much, not just the lyrics, or a band... i so much
occupy my life with listening
to music(hearing other people being creative), go to shows(seing,
getting inspired by other
bands)... jamming with friends can be so good, playing music that way
is when you get that
right feeling, like talking trough your instrument.
fRk: Your`re just back from
a longer european tour. Just heard that your booker quit with
his agency and you`re still searching some dates
anymore or did
everything went fine
at the end?!
:
E: It all wen't fine in the end. we kindof panicked when we found out
that our bookingagency
wern't replying to our emails, and we didn't get really any info on what
shows that did exist or
not. So we sended out requests to people that we've been in contact
with before, so in the
end we did a good tour without any offdays. From now on we will book
our own shows just
the way we used to do before. Feels alot better to be in direct contact
with the promotors.
fRk: Most scandinavian
people say the punk/hc scene is dead in the north
what about
Denmark/Sweden or your general experiences?
E:Denmark usually treat us
good, and now lately we played some really good shows in
Sweden... there's a new generation of kids and at some places/cities
they are actually pulling
it together pretty good.
fRk: I know you already
went through a whole lot countries in europe
so do you have any
preferences, where you really appreciate to play?
:
E:Mostly in the eastern european part! Recently we toured Russia,
Lithuania and Lativa
and that was just amazing!
fRk: What happens after the
tour
any existing plans?
E:Playing shows in Sweden,
we havn't played in our own country for years. Starting to
rehearse on new material as well I hope. Thank you for the interview,
and we are very sorry
about this big delayment! Emil/COF
