    MaLkOViCH.
Being John Malkovich... that's cool. And that's what one girl and four boys thought and
now... they are MALKOVICH ! Not only another deaf making machine from Reflections,
oh no, asthetic trash art, that's what they do. Smart ass-kickin rock'n'roll with nice attitudes,
listen to what Thomas Malkovich told us! Unfortunately we missed out to catch them face
to face at their show in Trier on 30/06, so we had a nice little conversation by mail...

being john malkovich... hit me when i'm wrong, but i'm quite sure that you liked the movie a lot;) so what's the deal with the name, have you chosen it only because it sounds cool or because john malkovich is such a cool person?

Thomas: Yeah, chosing this name was not that big deal. We like Being John Malkovich a lot and we needed a name. Then one of us had the brilliant idea of using "Malkovich" as a bandname, et voila.

.:.:.:.:.:.:.

take some time and introduce the band: where do you come from, what do you do and if you
like you can tell us who is malkovich, actually;)

    Thomas: Malkovich is....

Hugo Malkovich, he does the vocal part in the mix. He's 22 years old, has a girlfriend and goes
to university in Amsterdam. His study? Communication Sciences. What? Exactly...

Josha Malkovich, the man on the drumstool. Also 22 years old, has a lovely girlfriend and is
bound to be a professional drummer for the rest of his life.

Mark Malkovich, the fast as fuck guitarplayer. 24 years old and single. He just finished is study
and is enjoying freedom as we speak.

Miriam Malkovich, female bass-attack. 26 years old and part-time single. She studies History
Of Art in Amsterdam, is a photographer and runs a magazine at the University.

Thomas Malkovich, over the top guitarposes. 25 years old, single and slacker for life.

you just toured europe with labelmates modern live is war:  where have you been, what has
happened and what have you experienced yet?

Thomas: The tour was awesome! We had no idea what to expect of the MLIW-guys, but
they are honestly the coolest dudes ever. We've been to Danmark, Norway, Sweden,
Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Itally. Of course, like on every tour,
there some not so good shows, some good shows, and some really really good shows, but
overall we had a blast. Financially we even managed to save some money, so that's always
    a good thing.

sad thing, yesterday you should have played with give up the ghost. i got that on monday
and was a little bit shocked that they split up right before so many people want to see them
(inclusive me)... what's your opinion to that?

Thomas: It was a big shock for us, too. We've been looking forward to touring with them for
such a long time and we were really psyched to hang with Wes, Alex, Brian, Jonas and Tim.
But we're sure that they had their reasons for what has happened. Luckily we still got the
chance to hang with Jonas and Tim since they were over with The Hope Conspiracy with
whom we did a couple of shows during this tour, too.

have you ever got the chance to get to know them better, cause you were on the same label,
    at least more or less!?

Thomas: We did 2 shows with them last year and we really connected on both musical and
personal levels. We had so much fun back then and that was the reason they wanted us to
have them on this upcoming European tour. It's a shame it wasn't meant to happen...

you guys gonna release "a criminal record" in september, so what can we expect?

Thomas: Expect the typical Malkovich cocktail: a smart-ass mix of rock, hardcore and metal,
but now captured in really good songwriting. It will be intelligent, vicious and catchy.

by the way... "017" and "024"... what the fuck is that?! to lazy giving your songs names or
    what, hehe?!

Thomas: Haha, you figured it all out! We are lazy motherfuckers, indeed.

both songs were on the 017 cdEP you just released on reflections... and will appear on
the criminal record... have you recorded them further or at the same time with the rest of
    the album?

Thomas: No, these songs were part of the same recording session as the rest of "A Criminal
Record". Only the mastering will be different on the full length.

i have to be honest' unfortunately i never had the pleasure to hold a malkovich record in my
hands... nevertheless why should i kick my ass, go to the store and buy one?

Thomas: Because it sounds like nothing you've ever heard before and it looks like nothing
you've ever seen before. The combination of our sound and the artwork makes up for a unique
experience. (Haha, how's that for some out of the blue PR-blabla).

standard question: how criminal is malkovich? so have you ever been in funny conflict with
    the law?

Thomas: To be honest, no we never really have been. Only Josha ended up in jail for a couple
of hours for something he didnt even do. We're just 5 ordinary nice kids. That sucks, huh.

who's gonna get the cup in portugal? (this must be kind of silly cause the NL lost yesterday,
    sorry;)

Thomas: We would place all our money on Greece right now!
