    the.PinBoys
this night "danish dynamite" was thrown outta race in the european soccer championships.
well, that's tragic but to be honest: who cares?!;) i'm not a fan of soccer (maybe sometimes)
nevertheless i like good punk music. the pinboys are making good punk music and they are
from denmark and to end it this stupid introduction with hamlet's words: "there's something
foul in the state of denmark... so read the interview with the pinboys!"

frk: Hey, who are the PinBoys and what do you do?

We´re just four boys and a girl doing what we like, which is playing some awesome Emo-Punk!

frk: How long have you guys been together now?

The boys have been together since 2002 and Anne joined the band in 2003 after we lost our
    initial singer Stina.

frk: No Use For A Name, Bad Religion... these bands are in my mind when I hear your
    music... What's in your mind?

Funny you mention it… Bad Religion is one of Jakob’s, our lead singer, favorite bands, but it is
among many others eg.; The Ataris, The Get Up Kids, Midtown, Thrice, Brand New and of
course your own Donots. I really think that they are one of the best punk ’n’ rool bands right
now. Well, speaking of Bad Religion, I think Bad Religion has inspirred almost all of todays
punk-rock bands, so we’re just another one in the row. They kind of started the neo-punk ages
in the early 80s. However, we are inspirred by a lot of other bands and we have a very different
taste of music inside the band. It goes from pop-rock to metal, so it’s a kind of mixture of a lot
    of things united in punk-rock!

frk: Anyway who could describe their music better than the musicians themselves...?!
So please give us a short description of the PinBoys sound!

Hopefully people find our music melodic, catchy and energectic, because that’s the instension.
The sound, especially the sound of the new recordings, is very aggresive and massive. The
focus is on guitars (and guitar riffs), hard hitting drums and a pumping bass. We combine it with
a two voice harmony and a great melody, which makes the final sound more poppy. Eventually
that´s the PinBoys sound right now. Maybe it will change some day. As you will know when
you hear it, it’s nothing orginal, and that’s okay. We are not trying to bring something totally
new into the industry, which I also think is very difficult, cuz there are some many bands out
there. However, if a song turns out to have a sound you can’t quite describe, or put in a certain
box, then it´s fine by us, but it´s not a goal in itself.

frk: You had a record deal with an American label. Mhhh, that's quite far away from
denmark, so how did you get in contact with Flytrap Records? You're not working with them
    any longer... Why that?

Well the story is that we posted our first ever recording on a site called Garageband.com!
And in a strike of luck one guy from Flytrap Records heard us and the contact was established!
So we sent some more stuff to the label and later on we agreed on a deal for the release of a
split-cd (with the brazilian band White Frogs) which was released in august 2003! In october
2003 we went on a small US-tour to show the label what we we´re made of! This led to a
record deal and a recording of three songs in Coyote Studios (Brooklyn, NY). Shortly after
our return to Denmark our female singer dropped out of the band and that was when the
trouble started. Caus we wanted to mix Anne´s voice into the tracks and change the sound!
And so we did to the immense dislike of the label… in short they hated the sound! So at that
point there was not much to do either than break up the record deal! And so we did… So now
we´re kinda lying low and waiting for other labels to check us out. In the mean time we´ll do
a lot of touring to be seen and heard!

frk: To be honest, I'm quite sure that you have offers from labels located not that far...
still searching or is there anything gone serious?

From Denmark!!! No! The punk-rock scene in Denmark is close to none and labels that
release punkrock in Denmark is (I think so at least) not excisting! But labels in for example
Germany, would not be out of the way. It’s a huge country, a great scene so that would be
cool. We still free on the market and we know what we want so we will wait for the right
offer to come. So nothing serious yet!

frk: You sent us a 3 song promo... recorded in New York! Done in the Flytrap era or on
    your own?

Both… It was recorded during the Flytrap era and remixed after the Flytrap era! The sound
of the recording IS the new PinBoys sound! It really kicks ass doesn´t it!!!

frk: What about new stuff, I'm not sure but I think you told me about that?

We´ll record a 5 song EP in the beginning of July. We´re taking 9 days in a little studio called
SigSound, with an awesome producer called Ziggy (Not Ziggy Stardust, he he…). He´s the
one that remixed the three song on the promo!

frk: Interesting question for me... what's with the scene in denmark. cause always when I talk
with scandinavian bands especially from sweden' the say it's absolutely dead although there are
more and more great bands hailing from the north... are they all lying?!;)

You know, they say about Denmark that´s it’s the black hole between Germany and Sweden
and they´re perfectly right! At least for small, relatively unknown bands. The audience in
Denmark are very selective and usually don’t go to a concert without knowing the band well!
Which also means, that the venues don’t book shows with unknown bands that often… For
punk-rock there is no real scene yet! There are like 5-10 good bands on the punk scene so far,
but the scene is growing fast! But I guess that’s the reason for us heading south for tours… the
punk market is huge in Germany, Holland and Belgium compared to Denmark.

frk: There are a few bands I know from Denmark... lack, barrahead and gob squad but they
are absolutely great... are there more bands you can recommend?

Sure thing.. There are The Movement, who just did the Deconstruction Tour with bands like
Pennywise and Beatsteaks. And of course there’s Furillo (ska-punk) though I think they just
    split up!

frk: Uhhh, I forgot them... what a mistake! but let`s talk about your criminal past (standard
question in our magazine)... so have you ever been in conflict with the law... just funny stuff!

Hmmm.. We must be saints! At least when we´re on tour. We haven’t even been pulled over
yet! The closest thing must me backing into other cars! But when something happens we´ll let
    you know as the first……

frk: I know that you will tour europe quite soon even twice in august and october' seems that
    you don't like denmark;)

Ah… I think it´s a natural consequence of Denmark being so small and the punk scene being
so small! As I said before the scene in Germany and Benelux is much larger than the danish.
That’s one reason, but I think we´re kinda into the touring thing too… just something about
sleeping in the car or on a floor somewhere, drunk as hell! On top of that we need to show
what the danish punk-scene is like and last but not least draw some attention to us…

frk: ahhh, don't forget to mention your presence in the internet!!!
